Travelling to NY for Work

travel, letteringJessica2 Comments

Here's my final post on New York. I went for work for 2 nights and 3 days with a coworker of mine. Even though we spent the majority of the day working, we got to explore more than I thought we would! And I heard about the Breather Room for the first time. We used one of their spaces for an interview. It was great because it felt New York...you know what I mean? The whole brick, close to other buildings, and many windows.

STAY
Yotel - located in Hell's Kitchen, Yotel is definitely unique and futuristic. They're all about customer experience and putting technology in the forefront.

VISIT
Times Square - go in the day time and at night. There's a Forever 21 there that closes at 2am!
Rockefeller Center - quarter a mile away from Times Square. Flags everywhere.
Bowling Green Park - ate my burger here and so did the rest of the city. Wow eating outside for lunch? Who does that in California...
Central Park - didn't have enough time to explore and only hit south of the park. We enjoyed our Halal Guys' meals here.

EAT
Pio Pio (not pictured) - a block away from where we were staying. Popular dish is the Matador Combo. Feast for 3 really.
Rustic Table - on the corner of our hotel and a cute breakfast place to start the day.
Ippudo Westside - named best ramen and I must agree that it's pretty up there. Must get there before it opens because if you don't, then get ready for hours of waiting.
Friedman's - yummy salmon lox and toast. Try the avocado toast as well!
The Halal Guys - WHAT! Insanely good. Got the combo gyro and chicken with rice. White sauce a must.
The GoGo Grill - get the Battery Burger. It's a burger in an english muffin. Who would've thought.

Lettering 1989 in NY

I went to New York for 3 days and 2 nights last week for work, which was so amazing! I never been to NY and getting to go in a short amount of time was A OKAY with me. I thought that maybe I wouldn't have to go to NY again since I got to go...but now that I went, I have to visit again with Aaron!

On my flight back I lettered Taylor Swift's 1989 deluxe song titles and paired them up with some shots of New York that I took.

Weekend in Beverly Hills

travelJessicaComment

We celebrated my husband's 30th birthday this past weekend in Beverly Hills. We've never been there so it was nice to explore and to just relax for a weekend. We don't own a TV so the best part was falling asleep watching TV.

TO DO
Trolley Tours - 45 minute tour of Beverly Hills. They mostly talk about the homes but for $5 per person, do it!
Rodeo Drive - It was fun walking on this street. Definitely a lot of other tourists and high fashion shops.

EAT
Ice Cream Lab - Salt lick crunch. Next time I'd probably just get plain vanilla. The consistency and texture is bomb.
Aharon Coffee & Roasting - Cold brewed nitro on tap. First time hearing about this and it was very smooth to drink.
Fig & Olive - Had a Groupon deal. Crostini, scallop appetizer, lamb chops, filet mignon, dessert, and fig & walnut cocktail.

STAY
Mosaic Hotel - 10 minute walk from Rodeo Drive.

Movie binge in air

We came back from our 2 week vacation to Japan last week! And while I prepare to share my fun crazy Japan posts, here are my answers that everyone's been waiting for! WHAT DID YOU WATCH?? Well, let me tell you my movie-loving friends.

Insurgent
This was the first movie I saw on the plane and I was so glad I saw it in the movie selection. Though it was already midnight I was determined to stay awake in all of its intensity. And it got even better when I was served Korean bibimbap in the middle of the film.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
I restarted this movie 3x between our arrival and return flights cause I would always fall asleep after Ultron comes out. Good thing I already watched this movie in theaters.

Monsters University
Another movie I already saw but it was worth another rewatch.

Hot-Pursuit.jpg

Hot Pursuit
I wanted comedy and I got it. There was some silly romance just stuck in there but it was still a good movie to pass time.

The Age of Adaline
Normally these type of movies would scare me because of it's sci-fi-ness but I enjoyed it! I like Blake Lively so I watched. And movies that make you tear deserves a shout out.

Tomorrowland
I watched this one in sync with Aaron. We heard that it didn't get good reviews in theaters so we didn't watch it right away. BUT we both liked it! Yay George Clooney!

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
I chose this movie cause of its cast. To top it off, lines in the movie that says the title of the movie is sometimes genius. Fun movie I must say.

Focus
Will Smith plays another role as the smart dude. I like that guy.

Boyhood (attempted)
The 180 minute duration scared me already so I skimmed the movie. Hard for me to watch when I'm stuck sitting for so long already.

Book of Life (attempted)
The visuals seemed cool! But I fell asleep since it was 3am real time.

Travelling for Work (Virginia/Montreal) Part 4

Here's my last documentation on what we did in Montreal. It may seem like we didn't work but we totally did. We're just good at making use of our time in a different city :) Read Part 1, 2, or 3 for more funness.

First stop after our 11pm flight was to get dinner at Resto La Banquise and order our first poutine. It was already 1am and the place was packed. Someone told us that there's always a line from 3am-6am! It was quite happening on a Thursday night.

The next day we started filming for work right away and then grabbed lunch at Chez Boris got some frozen yogurt at Kem CoBa, and a sesame bagel from Fairmount Bagel. I took pictures but I can't get it out of my memory card for some reason :(

Our last night there we went to a popular street that I do not remember. Maybe not a popular street but it was definitely a nightlife area. Dinner was at Les Deux Gamins where I tried beef tartar for the first time and for dessert I got fleur de sel caramel at Juliette & Chocolat.

There were quite a few stores that were already closed but I still got the chance to visit a candy store and a market.

A lot of homes look like the picture below. Not sure if they're apartments or condos or what though. And a lot of them are different colors. We saw stairs that were painted purple.

For our last coffee run we went to Pikolo Espresso Bar. Every time we went to a coffee shop we had to make sure they provided wifi so we can find our next destination.

While we were filming, a guy from the company told us about some places to visit. There was this one area where you can overlook the city. I believe it's called Parc du Mont-Royal. So we visited right before we had to jet on a plane. And that was the trip! It was so much fun exploring the city in our down time and seeing how people live outside of my LA bubble.

Here are some photos from my trip to Virginia! The Dulles airport in Washington was quite pretty. We had to take a tram to our flight so that was new for me.

First stop was Coffeesmith for caffeine!

For dinner we went to Old Town Alexandria. It reminded me of Old Town Pasadena except a lot more restaurants and it was near water. I ordered Parisian (chicken with brie and ratatouille) from Fontaine Caffe and Creperie and it was quite delicious!

We accidentally went the wrong way and ended up in Maryland but then we got to see the welcome to Virginia sign.

The next day we started filming one of our company's partners then we went to lunch at Cafesano and got their popular red hummus and proscuitto sandwich.

These storefronts reminded me of home. Just a normal town.

On our way to another coffee shop, we passed by these mansions! Okay, maybe not mansions but these houses had huge lots and were so symmetrical.

And lastly we went to 29th Parallel Coffee and Tea. I ordered a caramel maachiato and it was so goooood.

Even though this was a work trip I had a lot of fun trying new things and seeing how life is like in Virginia.

It's been quite hectic this whole trip but still very enjoyable and exciting. We're in Canada right now and getting around the area is tough. There's a lot of construction going on and without internet, finding places to go with a physical map has been hard. I'll be sharing more next week and will be back home in sunny California tomorrow night! Btw, it's really cold here. The weather actually matches its season. Have a great weekend!
