Mountain Rabbit Themed Birthday Party

I am excited to share photos of a first birthday party I helped decorate along with the help of my friends Kirstie, Tiffany L, and Tiffany I! The baby girls' name is Beatrix and the party was based off her favorite song, Mountain Rabbit. It was fun coming up with the concept for how the backdrop, welcome table, and seating decorations would go. Here's the mood board I came up with and had her approve before I started gathering and creating the necessary items.

For the most part I'm happy with how everything turned out. There are things I would've liked to add and some other things to improve but I'm so happy to have the opportunity to create a party like this. Amazing photos from the event taken by Susie Bakonis.

It was fun being able to design the paper goods for her birthday as well. I hand wrote her name, made the raffle tickets, seating chart, and the activity sheets. My friend and I also stayed after set up to run the activity center - balloon making and face painting. It was fun for us to stay at the party and make sure the kids were having a blast too. It reminded us of our Fall Festival days at our church :)

Repeat the Sounding Joy

party, designJessica2 Comments

As a thank you to all our church friends who served with Aaron in any of his music teams in 2015, we got them a tote bag and a book. I lettered the words on the canvas then had it printed at 4dvi. I've been working with this print shop for awhile now and I really like their service and the work they do. I didn't just slap on the lettering on a stock image. This is the actual product. Look how crisp that white is!

We hosted a potluck at our house then gave these gifts to them at the end. If you want to purchase a tote bag you can buy one in my shop. I have a limited supply so get on it!

A Floral Baby Shower

diy, partyJessicaComment

Flowers are pretty wonderful and I'm starting to enjoy these delicacies - real and fake. I got to design the invites and decorate a floral baby shower this past weekend. Their theme color was purple so my team and I made purple paper flowers for the shower. I also used eucalyptus and flowers from the Alhambra's farmer's market. I got 3 bunches for $12...AMAZING. I was very excited and I plan to reuse the eucalyptus to decorate our home for Christmas.

Here's the invite I designed for the shower and some recap for ya ;)

My friend planned the baby shower for a fellow nurse so the games she created were centered around medical things. So how funny is this game?! Pin the sperm on the egg. Cleverrrrr.

Mushroom Dishes

food, partyJessicaComment

Kirstie's mushroom party (Part 1, Part 2) would not be a mushroom party without mushrooms. I used 7 different mushrooms for these dishes. I got all these from the asian market and I didn't think they would carry so many types. I had to stop myself from buying more mushrooms.

I can't say I have a recipe for each dish since I had a general idea of what I wanted to create and then I just put it together. Here's what I made:

  1. Beef wonton noodle soup with enoki
  2. Brown beech mushroom with spinach and fontina
  3. Baked portabella with chopped tomatoes and onions
  4. Baked king trumpet mushroom
  5. Cream of mushroom pasta
  6. Pizza with white beech mushroom
  7. Stuffed white mushroom with ground turkey
  8. Sauteed shiitake with chinese broccoli

Parties are more fun when you have a theme so happy mushroom cooking!

Wildlife Mushrooms in a Box

diy, partyJessicaComment

For the second part of the Mushroom Party, we made wildlife mushroom boxes! I got some flat moss from Michaels and cut and laid them out as the base for each box. These are the same boxes I used for this gift. I also pre made the little mushrooms using dry clay so my guests can paint it themselves. We then glued various moss on top of the flat moss, added some coffee beans as rocks and that was it!
